A Bit of History
Centuries ago, Aliso Viejo belonged to the large Moulton Range – a large chunk of land granted to Juan Avila by the Mexican government in 1842 and then claimed by the Moulton family in 1890. Nearly a hundred years later, the Mission Viejo Company bought the land from the family, and soon thereafter it became the city it is today.
The city was an unincorporated community since 1979, but finally became recognized as incorporated in 2001, making Aliso Viejo the newest incorporated community in California. Since this ‘becoming a city’ date, the residency rate grew, adding about 32,000 citizens to the city and marking Aliso Viejo as the fastest developing city in Orange County!

This idealistic balance between the two was not a coincidence; when the city became incorporated in 2001, the measure of jobs versus residents living within the borders was a planned notion. One huge helper in this aspect is Pacific Park, a business park and town center contributing more than 22,000 jobs to the workforce, with an average commute of less than two miles for its eager employees.
